Packaging Technologies & Inspection will present new Shakaâ„¢ In-Container Sterilization Technology at Pack Expo in Chicago, IL
Tuckahoe, NY (September 1, 2006) – Packaging Technologies & Inspection, the United States Agent for STERIFLOW SAS Thermal Processing Systems, will present the new Shaka™ In-Container Sterilization Technology at the Pack Expo Show running October 29 – November 2, McCormick Place in Chicago IL, PTI Booth S-1878.
The Shakaâ„¢ process is a major and timely breakthrough in food technology. For the first time, in-container sterilization can be completed in a few minutes to allow the production of fresher, better tasting long shelf life ambient foods. Food quality is comparable with pasteurized foods and with aseptic processed foods over a wide range of products.
Today’s consumers demand more. They are looking for fresher, more nutritious, more natural tasting and looking foods, with better color, texture and mouth feel. Strong growth in premium categories indicates that consumers seek enhanced quality. The Shaka™ process sterilizes food up to twenty times faster than conventional static retorting processes, with considerable improvement in food quality.
Other retorting processes are much slower and subject the food to a long exposure to heat, producing discoloration and that over-cooked note found in many canned and bottled foods. Tony Stauffer, president of Packaging Technologies & Inspection, states “The Shakaâ„¢ process capital costs are also much lower than for most other sterilization processes due to the shortened cycle time. The Shakaâ„¢ single basket retort is equal to the output of a 1600 diameter rotary/five basket retort, which requires a much longer cycle time.â€
